Jo’rell h. whitfield

Jo’rell H Whitfield is a real New Yorker! Born and raised in Queens during the 80s he navigated out of the one-way streets of his borough and grew into an international spoken word artist, poet-playwright, and author of three books. Fresh out of his final English course at Morgan State University, he penned his first poetry book “The Deferred Dream” in 2008 and in 2014 released his first novel of the same title.

In 2008, he co-created Writing4mylife, a writing/performance/publication company and performance stage name. For over 18 years Jo’rell has been teaching and performing poetry everywhere from open mic venues, to high schools, to colleges and universities in over 50 cities around the country. He has won countless poetry slams and has been featured in historical venues such as The Nuyorican Cafe in New York, The Savoy Lounge in Los Angeles, and the Smithsonian in our Nation’s capital. His support base also reaches the Caribbean, having performed at Antigua and Barbuda's annual Soothe Lounge.

In “Just Enough For The City,” through his extensive city-living experiences, Jo’rell takes the colors of American reality and paints them into a dazzling mural of hand-written spoken word poetry.
